A match it was, born from nail-biting tension and wrapped in melodrama. Matthew Hayden has called the match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Gujrat Titans the ‘most’ hard-fought event in the ‘history of IPL.’ It was packed up. The fiery spell of Umran Malik, the prosperous innings of Wriddhiman Saha, the devastating knock from Rahul Teotia, and last but never the least – three biggies at the final over by Rashid Khan, this unitedly has brought victory to Gujarat!
Gujarat was chasing Hyderabad’s 195 at the last over – they had to have 22 runs to secure the victory. During the first ball of the last over Marco Jansen, Teotia hammered a six, followed by a single on the second ball. The third ball witnessed a maximum from Rashid! The fourth ball remained a dot. It was followed by another six on the fifth ball. Rashid had an overwhelming celebration as the last ball flew away over Natarajan’s head through a deep square leg. Gujarat is now at the top of the league table, Teotia was not out for 40 in 21 balls, and Rashid, with four biggies, was not out for 31 in 11 balls.
It was like a fairy tale being written on the field. But, there is always reality beyond fairy tales – where everything is pleasant and composed. Wriddhiman Saha deals with the second one in his life. His struggle is not limited to the crease nor at the back of the wicket. His struggle always began at the moments when he was kicked out or thrown away. But, like a phoenix, it is always the experienced man, ‘coming back to life’ and replying with his bat and black and white keeping gloves. So was his reply in today’s match.
Indian Coach Rahul Dravid might beckon him to say that India no longer requires Wriddhiman. Some talk show moderators – with some self-claimed expertise might also attack him below the belt. But still, there are ‘fairies of another sort’! His powerful motivation doesn’t get crooked. The Bengali keeper knew that he could not have done much this year in a couple of matches. The chances always decrease. He, however, has begun to counterattack in style against his former home! His aggression has brought 59 runs in the first six overs, and his incredible knock got his half-century arrived only in 28 deliveries. Finally, when he was approaching outside on a 153 km/per hour yorker by Umran, eventually the delivery got Umran his man. He was returning to the dugout after a splendid 68 in 38 balls; everyone was clapping all over the stadium – including Hardik, the skipper. None, however, knows if the sound reaches BCCI or not –
Though Gujarat has managed an unbelievable win here, Umran, the bowler from the opposite troop, has been awarded the man of the match. Again it is a master spell of 25 for five wickets in just two overs. That, however, could not have powered his team to a winning position.
